Let’s face it, you need your fix, and you’re going to get it one way or another! If you’re not on MySpace you’re thinking about MySpace. And if you’re not thinking about MySpace you’re… well, probably on MySpace!

Maybe it’s not MySpace. Maybe it’s Facebook, Bebo, Hi5 or YouTube. The point is the man wants to keep you down and it’s your right to have free anonymous access at any time (Unless you signed an agreement not to - note: I am not a lawyer!)

Today is different. Today you can reclaim your much-needed connection with the free world. You can unblock access to all of your favourite sites instantly at any time! You can browse anonymously to avoid blocking with free web-based proxy services!

I’ve set up a proxy at example.com with a number of mirrors on a powerful dedicated server. You can use whichever URL is easiest for you to remember, or choose another if access happens to be blocked (Let us know!)

Best of all, if the teacher or boss comes sneaking up behind you there’s a button to take you to a work/education-related web site.

We are prepared to stay in business with our high quality servers and preparation for bandwidth and alternate IPs. Yes, there are AdSense ads (it’s not cheap!) but you only see that page once per visit - the rest of the time you are browsing the sites of your choice with a very non-intrusive header of just one or two lines. We will likely minimize AdSense placement on the main page as we add new features and do more testing. Many more features are coming - this is just the beginning.

Browse anonymously. Unblock MySpace, YouTube - all the sites you want. We’re prepared for the expansion. Tell your friends!

Hey I was wondering if maybe you could make a new proxy? They’ve blocked all the ones in your blog.

Our view is we should work on creating better, less-often-blocked pages before adding more domains.

Well your proxy is good for MySpace but do you have any proxies to get on Yahoo mail? Yours work to log on but not to check my email.

Unfortunately this is not possible with our current web-based proxy script, PHProxy which is maintained by a single programmer (not me). This type of proxification is not easy to program. Basically each and every link in each and every page must be switched for a proxified one. The problem is, some links are built using impossible-to-predict javascript code or, worse, URLs are built into Flash objects which require a per-site manual hack-around.

If the web-based proxy does not work we recommend that you:

1. Try this mirror which is not (stupidly) listed right where your sysadmins are looking for it, on each proxy URL: example.com

2. Try this!
In Internet Explorer go to “Tools” -> “Internet Options” -> “Connections”. Click “Settings”. In the “Proxy” section enter the hostname “readthenews.info” or another one of our mirrors. Enter “3131″ as the proxy port. Click “OK” to save the settings.

By changing this setting you are essentially routing your entire web browsing experience through our server. No web-based proxy is required. When you browse directly to any web site, such as MySpace, YouTube, Hi5, Bebo or Facebook the data is -still- going through our proxy server. The browsing experience should work perfectly. If all goes well the URLs you browse will not even show up in your school or work proxy logs.

This method may not be as easily blocked.

Please let me know if this works at your school and/or if you can install other browsers such as FireFox.

We have more ideas for even better proxies and will set up some more sites soon!
